The History of Tourism in Hvar - 140 year's
It all began over 140 years ago, and in this time it's past a road from health tourism, to union and industrial, all the way to exclusive.
After the transfer of Venice, Austria in their large estates has not a place that is situated on the seashore, and that is appropriate to stay in the winter for those who suffer from chest diseases, although more of these lie along the coast of Istria and Dalmatia.
After mature consideration and the granting by most physicians and the great naturalists, we found that for chest ache there is none more appropriate than Hvar, which according to its accommodation, the building of the city and climate characteristics can not only be a rival to Venice, Pisa, Nice, France, etc., but they often can be outdone.
Guided by these reasons and to encourage the attentions of patriotism and mankind, with the belief that we can provide the inhabitants of Austria and northern Germany accessible and suitable resort, we founded in Hvar in Dalmatia, a joint stock company under the name of Hygiene Society in Hvar.
The Hygiene companies goal to procure all necessary for a pleasant stay of foreigners in this city, in order to facilitate their illness and give their lungs the mildness of our climate and our soothing air.
The Company will in this regard have available to foreigners comfortable homes, attend to their desires and will not save effort to fulfill all their wishes. In October there will be more ready-furnished houses.
