The Dalmatian coast is fast becoming the French Rivera of the east, and Hvar is unquestionably its St Tropez. Although it has been a popular with yacht-goers of the Mediterranean for years, its relative inaccessibility has meant that it managed to hold on to its special tranquil beauty. And it's easy to see the appeal: the Adriatic air smells of lavender as the rocky hills surrounding Hvar town itself are blanketed in purple. At the bottom of the slopes, the harbour town curves around the south-facing bay, with those yachts bobbing on the crystal clear water.
The island of Hvar is one of (the islands in the Adriatic sea)middle Adriatic islands. With the length of 68km is the second by the length and with the size of 300 km2 is fourth. The (highest peaks) biggest tops of the island; Sveti Nikola (626m) and Hum (603m) are located on the southwest side. Tourism is well developed in Hvar - the biggest and the most famous city on the island, Jelsa, Stari Grad and Vrbovska. Climate: Hvar is known as an “island of sun”. For the mild mediterranean climate in this area are the rich mediterranean vegetation and mild temperatures ( between 26 ˚C and 30 ˚C in average) during the summer characteristic.
How to reach Hvar: By land you can reach Hvar from Split and Drvenik and from there you have many local ferry lines to Stari Grad and Sućuraj. The city of Hvar is also well connected with the neighbor islands and with Split by fast ferry lines more time per day.
City of Hvar
The city of Hvar is located in a well protected bay on southwest part of island. From the fortress Španjola or Fortica (how locals call it) a breathtaking view on the old town and the fascinating Pakleni islands (“Pakleni otoci”) in front of the harbour is offered to everyone. Culture: The city of Hvar is famous by its museums and historical monuments. The first european public theater was established and placed on the main square of Hvar in 1612. On this square which is also the biggest square in Dalmatia are also located; St. Stephan cathedral - a beautiful example of 16th century renaissance, duke palace from 15th century – rebuilted in a hotel Palace with loggia and the watch tower. Some of the other monuments are St. Benedict monastery, church and museum of St. Mark and the Franciscan monastery and museum.
Tourist offer on Hvar; the city is popular by its exciting night life. Moreover it is well known as the most spectacular night life in whole Dalmatic area. Beside numberless coffee bars, night clubs, cocktail bars and disco clubs, there is a plenty of cultural manifestations like: exhibitions, performances and concerts. The Sea; Hvar has the cleanest sea in whole Adriatic and there are many beautiful places to have a bath and some of them are only 250 meters from the old town. Besides swimming there is diverse offer of sea sports, bicycle and hike tours over the untouched spots of Hvar. Furthermore, there are Pakleni islands, something for everyone, heaven for nudists and hedonists with a plenty of undiscovered beaches and restaurants. Taxi and excursion boats drive daily from the city harbor to Resin islands or any other neighbor island.
